Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz landed in Morocco on Wednesday. It is the first official visit by an Israeli defense minister to the north African kingdom. Both states want to deepen their military cooperation and are planning to build a military base near Melilla. That became known a few days ago.
In addition, during this official trip to Morocco, Gantz is said to promise to deliver an advanced Iron Dome air defense system. There are also plans to set up a factory to manufacture military drones in Morocco. It is expected that an agreement will be signed setting the conditions for cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense.
After diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco were resumed less than a year ago – in December 2020 – relations could not develop any better. The Israeli ambassador in Rabat himself says that “the potential of the agreements is important; you have to understand that we have had social and cultural relationships for decades ”. It should not be forgotten that a direct flight between Casablanca and Tel Aviv will open on December 12th. Royal Air Maroc will be the airline and work is underway on issuing visas to Moroccans traveling to the Hebrew countries.
