Anyone who enjoys the often sunny and relatively mild weather these days, which from last weekend also extends into the new week, should stretch their nose up to the sky one or two times more and stock up on their vitamin D supply, because winter is approaching with great strides. But really now! As experts from the Austrian Severe Weather Center (UWZ) forecast, the weather will change on Thursday, and so we have to be prepared for winter for a long time: It will arrive in eastern Austria on time for the first weekend in Advent – snow included!
So next weekend we are not only allowed to light the first candle on the Advent Christmas Party, but also to dress warmly, as UWZ chief meteorologist Manfred Spatzierer explains: “At the edge of a blocking high above the North Atlantic, cold air masses come to us from the north and to Central Europe the influence of low pressure. ” Sun children should still use the high pressure effect before cold air masses slowly creep up on Thursday. That can lead to rain and snow on Friday. “On the north side of the Alps from Vorarlberg to the Waldviertel, according to the current state of affairs, snow is sometimes in sight down to deep layers,” said Spatzierer. But it can not only turn white in western Austria and in the generally cool Waldviertel – especially on Friday, the chances of the first snowflakes falling in Vienna and the surrounding area are currently very high. The weather app even speaks of 100 percent. It is not yet known whether these are good prerequisites for a white Christmas 2021 – but, as is well known, the Christ Child accepts wishes by the 1st of Advent at the latest.
