The English Football Association has extended the contract with national coach Gareth Southgate by two years until December 2024. The Football Association (FA) announced on Monday. Southgate’s previous contract was valid until the end of the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022. “It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team,” said Southgate of the contract extension.
The 51-year-old, who was originally only an interim solution, has been responsible for the “Three Lions” since November 2016. After losing the European Championship final in the summer, Southgate initially left its long-term future open. England lost 3-2 on penalties to Italy at Wembley Stadium and missed their first major football title in 55 years. At the 2018 World Cup, he had led England to the semi-finals.
