Tadzio Müller is a left-wing professional demonstrator. He spent half of his life in left-wing protest circles. First in the anti-globalization movement, then as a climate activist.
Müller gave a detailed interview to “Spiegel”. In it he describes how the climate protests will “very likely” radicalize in the near future, as a reaction to an alleged political failure in climate protection. “In the climate crisis, the movement can choose between irrelevance and militancy,” he says.
“Destroyed car showrooms, destroyed cars, sabotage in gas-fired power plants or on pipelines. That’s definitely going to happen next summer. I hear that from the movement, even from rather moderate actors, ”reports the 45-year-old climate protection activist. In 2014 he was one of the co-founders of the anti-coal movement “Endegebiet”, which is classified as “left-wing extremist influenced” by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Müller openly admits that the movement had “already had plans for acts of sabotage this year”.
If someone sabotaged a gas-fired power plant or destroyed cars, from Müller’s point of view it was “now self-defense”. He is convinced: “It is legitimate to break things”. If climate protection were really important to the population, “the Greens would have received more than 14.8 percent”. He also expects a repressive reaction to it. “Militant activists will end up in jail for several years. Much of the movement will become frightened and peaceful. A small part will go underground, ”he imagines. “Whoever prevents climate protection creates the green RAF. Or climate partisans. Or sabotage for future. Whatever they call themselves then ”. But he doesn’t want to go underground himself, “I’m much too old”, quoted in “Welt”.
