At the beginning of the 20th century, Lorenz Adlon opened the famous Hotel Adlon on Pariser Platz in Berlin. Now his great-grandson, Felix Adlon, has published the book “Adlon” and writes about the history of his family in it. For the native of Munich, it was particularly important to tell the story as it really was.
Felix Adlon told the Berlin newspaper “BZ” why he was only now publishing the book: “You have to have a certain degree of maturity in order to understand the connections. In addition, so much is said about the Adlons, for example this ZDF three-part series. It is entertaining and tragic, but then this Schad family is simply invented. “
The exciting story of the Adlon family also includes the illegal expropriation of the hotel – once by the Soviets and again after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Felix Adlon is a trained chef, then lived for a long time in the USA and studied film and photography there. Today he lives with his second wife, Nina Adlon, who works as an opera singer and actress, in Vienna and the Wachau. The two have a ten-year-old son and five grown children from their first marriages. Felix has a close relationship with his father, Percy Adlon. He tells about his relatives and ancestors that he always felt a “deep story of love and suffering” in his family.
The hotel has not been family-owned for a long time, but Felix Adlon values the commitment of Kempinski very much. However, he would like to be more involved in the hotel.
