“We already suspected it” – this is how gastro-chairman Peter Dobcak reacted to the lockdown announced today. In an interview with eXXpress he said that he was glad that the government had “finally made the necessary decision”. “Real” measures are finally needed to contain the virus and new infections. Of course, he hopes that the opening will be possible again on December 13th and that the Christmas business will not fall completely into the water.
In order to support all of this, there must be economic support from the state. He had just talked to Tourism Minister Köstinger about it and had a productive conversation. It is still painful, however, since winter is the main season for large parts of Austria. The economy must be kept alive here with deferrals and loss of earnings.
When asked what Viennese restaurateurs are saying about the lockdown, Dobcak reiterated: “Everyone says it was really time for the government to act. However, there has to be adequate economic support. ” He hoped that those who were still unvaccinated would now “finally realize the importance of vaccination. You should use the lockdown time to finally get the first trick. ” Dobcak also rated the mandatory vaccination as positive – this means that the 2G rule in gastronomy will soon be a thing of the past.
