In Pertisau on the Tyrolean Achensee, the country leaders have been discussing with Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) and Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) since Thursday evening. This morning is also completely reserved for deliberations – after all, far-reaching decisions are at stake. It is clear that there will be tightening. It is still open, however, whether the whole country will have to go into lockdown from Monday.

Chain reaction

The result of the deliberations is to be announced today at 12.30 p.m. That should then trigger a chain reaction: On Friday and Saturday, the citizens should quickly close shops and Christmas markets before they have to close for several weeks. Many young people will probably also go to a bar or disco on Saturday night. The restaurants could then be overrun for Sunday before they have to switch back to take-away and delivery service.

Should Austria go into a fourth lockdown?
