Children, how time flies! In the year 2022, which is fast approaching, it will be 20 years since “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” came to the cinemas and thus really started the hype about the most famous sorcerer’s apprentice in the world from the incredibly successful book series by JK Rowling .
A whole generation grew up with the adventures of the sorcerer’s apprentice and the series continues to inspire (now adult) fans from the very beginning, as well as children and young people who are only now immersing themselves in the magical world. For a long time it seemed that the original cast, despite a few spin-offs, would no longer gather like this on the screen after the end of the last film – but thought wrong! As has now become known, fans can look forward to seeing (almost) all faces from the cinematic “Harr Potter” universe again very, very soon! HBO has announced a reunion special with the cast of the films for January 1, 2022. “For the very first time, the legendary acting crew will return to where the magic began,” reads a short trailer that not only fires fans and makes them want more.
For “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts”, in addition to the three main actors Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasly), many other stars, such as Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Robbie Coltrane (Rubeus Hagrid), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge) and Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy). Since both Alan Rickman (Professor Severus Snape) and the very first Dumbledore actor Richard Harris have already passed away, they unfortunately cannot be there.
Together with director Chris Columbus, they will talk and reminisce about the making of the films, which were nominated for a total of 12 Academy Awards and grossed over 7 billion US dollars worldwide.
And what about the mother of the “Harry Potter” universe herself, JK Rowling? According to initial information, the author of the book series should not be part of the big reunion. Reasons for this are unknown, but it is believed that her absence may have something to do with the transhobic tweets last year for which she was heavily criticized.
But the absence of JK Rowling should not dampen the anticipation of fans or the actors themselves for the great reunion for the 20th birthday of the first “Harry Potter” film itself. Shortly after the date for the mega-event on Netflix became known, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Tom Felton, among others, posted the teaser trailer, Emma Watson even touched fans with a throwback photo of herself with Radcliffe and Grint, which she loved found emotional words about her Harry Potter time. She affectionately refers to “Harry Potter” as “her family and her home” and expresses how important Hermione is to her, what a great honor it was and is to embody her and that the clever young witch is her “favorite fictional character of all time”.
