Qatar has been heavily criticized for years for its disregard for human rights and the exploitation of workers. The political leadership in the country is accused of trying to improve the tarnished reputation of the country through massive involvement in sport. Formula 1 is exactly where it should be.
Just seven days after the last crime race in Brazil, the next chapter of history will be written in Qatar. The race in the Arabian desert came on the calendar late as a replacement for the canceled race in Australia. The Losail International Circuit is therefore only known to motorcycle fans.
There are a total of 16 bends, ten right and six left bends. The home straight is over a kilometer long and leads to a strong braking zone in front of Turn 1. This is also the only DRS zone on the route.
Turns 4 through 9 are followed by a series of slower, tighter turns, in which the tires heat up considerably and drivers have to be careful not to overheat them. The middle section of the route consists mainly of fluid, fast corners. In the last part there is a mixture of different cornering speeds and types. At the end of the lap, a slow right turn leads back to the start-finish. Nothing stands in the way of a grandiose World Cup final between the youngster Verstappen and the old warhorse Hamilton.
