This step needs to be carefully considered: Vienna’s Mayor Michael Ludwig does not want to rule out a lockdown in Vienna, analogous to Salzburg and Upper Austria, in view of the increasing corona numbers, but: In the east, the situation is nowhere near as dramatic as in the west. For this reason, Burgenland’s district court Hans Peter Doskozil has so far resisted a nationwide lockdown. All hopes now rest on him at tomorrow’s country summit!
But even if a nationwide lockdown were to be averted, Ludwig could still declare one for Vienna. It is not the first time that he has turned himself against the government’s course in order to establish himself as a tough crisis manager. But such a decision would simply have far-reaching and serious consequences: Closed Christmas markets, closed shops, closed schools, closed restaurants. According to experts, the damage in a new lockdown of just under four weeks would amount to a billion euros in Vienna alone!
With the money you could also …
7,273 kilometers of new motorways be able to build (this corresponds roughly to the distance from Vienna to Beijing)
or 5000 Spitalsbetten can finance
or 28 new hospitals be able to build (or a KH Nord)
or 4608 brand new council housing apartments can build in a good location
or 43,478,260 Lecturers from the vaccine Biontech / Pfizer can buy. With this amount one could have vaccinated every Austrian 14 times.
