Novogenia in Salzburg is one of the largest PCR laboratories in Austria and a leading test provider. Now the CEO Dr. Daniel Wallerstorfer addressed the Salzburg team with an unusual appeal: “We urgently request that people with symptoms and those who have already been proven to be infected do not throw in tests in order to ensure that the pooling tests can be carried out.” This group currently makes up around eleven percent.
The reason for the request: Because of the high incidence figures in Salzburg (1672), the test laboratories are now facing almost unsolvable problems. Salzburg is the incidence leader. Anyone who wants to be tested for Corona there will now encounter numerous hurdles. The website for the gargle test registration is said to be always overloaded, as “Today” reports. Those who wait for a test result are permanently in the dark whether and when they will receive it. Some pharmacies can only dispense antigen tests.
The problem is the many positive tests, as Novogenia reports. The process is much more complex here. More than 40 percent of 10 samples contain positive cases and then have to be resolved in complex individual analyzes. “The extreme positive rate, which is currently pushing many laboratories to their limits, has also reached the limit of what is feasible for us,” says Daniel Wallerstorfer from Novogenia. “We received 250,000 samples in the past twelve hours, which were easy to analyze in times of low incidence. The extremely high positive rate beyond four percent has now overwhelmed our reserve sample analysis capacity. It will not be possible to analyze all reserve samples within the set timeframe. “
If test participants do not receive a result within 30 hours, they must assume that their sample will be tested individually to ensure that there is no infection.
