The strongest increases in new infections are currently in the age group of elementary school students and young people in the lower grades. The incidence value rose by almost 61 percent within a week, from 943.6 to 1518.9 cases per 100,000 population. The seven-day incidence rose slightly less in the past week among 15- to 24-year-olds, namely from 984.3 to 1253.5 per 100,000 population (plus 27 percent).
Among the 5 to 15 year olds, the incidences are also significantly higher than in 2020, as the well-known Austrian statistician Erich Neuwirth shows. To do this, he also uses a logarithmic scale, on which one can see the movement processes and trends more clearly.
The incidences are also higher among 15- to 24-year-olds from the previous year.

But there is good news: The occupancy rate of the beds in the hospitals – also in the intensive care units – has so far been lower than in 2020 – an indication of the effectiveness of the vaccination.
