A new regulation came into force in China on Wednesday. Accordingly, all Beijing visitors now have to prove a negative corona test that is not older than 48 hours. Domestic flights from Corona risk areas to Beijing will be canceled or at least significantly restricted. Currently, more than a hundred cities in the People’s Republic of China are classified as risk areas. The spokesman for the city administration, Xu Heijian, justified the tightening at a press conference on Tuesday: “Beijing is the capital and has strong regional and international connections. The virus must not be brought into Beijing and it must not spread in Beijing. “
The more than 300,000 workers who come into contact with frozen imports at work now have to be tested for the corona virus every three days. Chinese authorities have linked previous corona outbreaks among market people in Beijing and dock workers in east China’s Qingdao to frozen products.
However, the number of cases in China is significantly lower than in most other countries in the world. The “Middle Kingdom” reacted after the coronavirus had spread and contained the virus through decisive measures such as quarantine orders and mass tests. On Tuesday, only 31 infections were reported within 24 hours from the most populous country on earth. The Chinese authorities are still enforcing strict corona restrictions and are pursuing a no-Covid strategy – all the more so as the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing are approaching.
The Beijing Winter Olympics will take place from February 4th to 22nd. No foreign viewers are allowed. The approximately 2,900 athletes taking part must all be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus or in quarantine for 21 days in advance. In addition, all athletes are tested daily.
