Milk (1930-1978) was the first openly gay US politicians and was murdered by a political rival in San Francisco at the age of 48. In the 1950s, Milk had four years as a marine diver served and took part in the Korean War (1950-1953). After his homosexuality became known, he was discharged from military service. In 2008 his life was filmed with Sean Penn in the lead role.
