A lecturer at a German university has now turned to the eXXpress in confidence and described that there is a real war of attitudes at universities not only in the USA but now also in Germany. According to this, very left-wing students would deliberately sift through social media posts by teachers and report critical statements – for example against gendering – to the university management.
This is particularly a problem for external teachers because their commitment is limited in time. “We now had a case where a group of young female students complained about a tweet about transsexuality,” reports the academic, who prefers to remain anonymous. In fact, such accusations are taken seriously by the universities, because they are concerned about protests with media coverage. Many of his colleagues therefore hardly dare to publicly formulate critical counter-positions to the woken zeitgeist – and that in places that were once emblematic of free opinion and free teaching.
The incident in Germany is reminiscent of a case in the UK where philosophy professor Kathleen Stock was forced to resign from her post in Sussex after months of being accused of trans-hostility by a mob in an aggressive campaign. In the end she even had to fear for her personal safety. The trigger was her commitment to gender-critical feminism, which puts biological sex in the foreground.
