It looks good at first glance. Cyber criminals are currently promising special functions with a new version of WhatsApp. But these quickly turn out to be blackmail Trojans. But how exactly does this new scam work? According to “oe24.at”, the fraudsters send a message to potential victims via WhatsApp. With the attached link (“blue.whatsap.top”) you can install a new, blue version of Whatsapp. But be careful: you should never click on this link. This version can be downloaded from this link. All you have to do is select your mobile phone operating system and one of three available blue tones.
However, you catch a so-called blackmail trojan with this confirmation link. The smartphone content is then encrypted. The criminals then demand a ransom if you want to access your data again. But the scammers go further. You then send this link to the other contacts. On behalf of the victim, they are asked to download the new version as well.
