A serious traffic accident occurred on Monday morning in the Wels-Land district of Upper Austria: On the B 137 near Krenglbach, the driver of a car with his Toyota got into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into an ambulance coming towards him. At the time of the accident, he was on his way to the hospital with two elderly patients, as the police confirmed on request.
Due to the force of the impact, the ambulance was thrown into an adjacent meadow and lay on its side. The other car was also badly damaged. The accident was so devastating that a large number of rescue workers was necessary to get the situation under control: countless paramedics, police cars and two rescue helicopters rushed to the scene of the accident.
A total of five people were injured in the crash – how serious the respective injuries are was not yet clear at lunchtime. What is known, however, is that two people had to be flown to the hospital by rescue helicopter.
At the moment nothing is known about the exact background of the accident, more intensive investigations should clarify the course and possibly also the cause.
