Will we have to make do with fewer Christmas presents this year? The trade association warned of delivery bottlenecks in October. Now Hannes Majdic, one of Austria’s largest electronics retailers, confirms to “orf.at” that it could be difficult to get what you want, especially when it comes to electronics and jewelry. There are delivery bottlenecks because many products are produced in the Far East. Then there are the missing individual parts. Full stocks are therefore a must for dealers long before the holidays. Hannes Madjic has already taken precautions. Especially for game consoles, IT products or laptops, freight costs have skyrocketed, according to the electronics retailer.
Before the pandemic, you could get a shipping container for $ 2,000. Now it costs $ 12,000 or even $ 15,000. Due to the pandemic, many customers have got used to ordering online. Madjic also has an online shop where he delivers within 24 hours. Without a warehouse, he sees few opportunities for the electrical industry. Availability is also another problem. This is no longer the case everywhere. In addition, services are becoming more and more expensive. Preparations for Black Friday on November 26th are already in full swing.
Delivery bottlenecks are threatening not only in the electronics industry, but also in jewelry. Here, too, availability of components is the problem. China has had problems due to the pandemic, many factories have been closed. Due to energy problems, some only work a few days a week. Rudolf Moser, a wholesaler in Klagenfurt, said that product planning would be extended. Planning for the autumn-winter collection for 2022 has already begun.
