On Friday, ten minutes after midnight, officials from the Vienna State Transport Department were made aware of a car driving in a serpentine line on the A23, level center south. When the officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver ignored all instructions from the police, stepped on the gas and fled.
With several overtaking maneuvers, past other road users – at two times 270 km / h – the completely out of control driver put countless people in massive danger. It sped over the A2 to Lower Austria and left the autobahn at the Leobersdorf exit. In the local area of Hirtenberg, the speeder finally stopped the vehicle voluntarily and faced the police officers, who temporarily arrested the man.
The driver was apparently impaired by the influence of drugs and alcohol, but refused to be examined by the medical officer. The detainee was extremely abusive and uncooperative. He refused to disclose his name or any other data and did not show a valid driving license. With the help of the police identification service, the officers were able to quickly clarify the identity of the 41-year-old Romanian national. The man was already subject to a valid residence ban and an arrest order from the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum. The Romanian was taken to a police detention center for further foreign police measures.
