On October 19, passers-by found the body of a diplomat in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin. Accordingly, the man had fallen from an “upper floor” of the embassy. The man had worked as the second embassy secretary in Berlin since 2019. But apparently that was just a cover: As the “Spiegel” reports, the man was a spy for the Russian domestic secret service FSB.
Russia had not agreed to an autopsy, the body had already been transferred to Russia. The Spiegel claims to have learned from security circles that the cause of death is “unknown”. It also says that third-party debt cannot be ruled out in this way. The Russian embassy called the case a “tragic accident”.
