The sports court of the German Football Association banned Clemens Fandrich from second division Erzgebirge Aue for seven months. The 30-year-old was punished for spitting a line judge on the right eye in the league match against Ingolstadt on October 22, as the DFB committee announced on Thursday.
Aue board member Kay Werner is shocked by the decision. It is an “absolutely unacceptable sentence”, said Werner, who as a lawyer attended the trial in Frankfurt with Fandrich. If necessary, it will also be checked “whether it is possible to go to the ordinary courts”. Fandrich had denied the spit attack.
