In the eXXpress TV interview, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) praised the training of corona detection dogs through the Austrian federal year as an “international pioneering achievement”. The outcome of the project was completely uncertain when it started a year ago: “We didn’t even know whether our dogs could sniff out the virus.” Regarding success, Tanner says: “You can see what wonderful experts we have.”
A scientific study on the project is now being published in relevant specialist publications. The success is also attracting international interest, including the city of Leipzig and international universities. The dogs could also be used in social institutions such as old people’s and nursing homes in the future.
