The first aiders are likely to have seen dramatic images at the scene of the accident: Around eight o’clock, a small car left the roadway to the right for an as yet unknown cause and drove onto the sidewalk. There the vehicle captured a group of five schoolchildren who were on their way to elementary school. “From this group, three students were apparently hit directly by the car and were seriously injured as a result,” said a spokesman for the Werra-Meißner police department for the Bild newspaper. A child was said to have been under the car and was rescued by first responders. Another child was thrown onto a wall. The children, some of whom are seriously injured, are all between the ages of seven and nine.
The local driver (30) was also injured. According to the current state of investigation, the police are assuming a tragic accident.
