Anyone who currently calls the Municipal Department for Immigration (MA 35) of the City of Vienna will be automatically put through to a service center. There, however, callers are not allowed to be put through to clerks; instead, the name and number are noted down for a callback – which can then take time. Such a recall should officially take place within two days, but “but it will turn out to be seven or ten, and the information that you then get is completely contradicting”, annoyed the Green member of the National Council and lawyer Georg Bürstmayr.
In some cases, these are completely normal procedures that now take well over six months for the municipal department responsible for immigration and citizenship. He suspects: The processing times are deliberately prolonged in order to fully exhaust the legal deadline. The politician expects thousands to be affected.
