The political expert Gert Schmidt (EU-Infothek) states: “Since the Ibiza affair, the weightings of the political issues have been set completely wrong.” Many politicians apparently believed that the blunders and hatred they practiced day in and day out were already politics. That just affects members of the National Council. “We didn’t give them a job to run through the arena like fighting cocks or fighting hens.”
On the one hand, a certain correctness is emphasized disproportionately, on the other hand, important economic questions are ignored. The politicians would completely forget about the problems of the population. There is also a life outside of the area in which some politicians currently live.
eXXpress editor-in-chief Richard Schmitt referred to the many burning problems, such as the impending inflation crisis, the unresolved corona pandemic and the migration crisis: “30,000 illegal immigrants have come to Austria this year alone, and they also need to be looked after and cared for. You hear little about it and you don’t hear how you want to get it under control. “
Gert Schmidt agrees: “The commercial and working population is suffering from the pandemic. But for two years there has only been a mess in politics. ” There is therefore a huge amount of frustration, also in the economy. Fighting corruption is important, it just has to be “trimmed to the right degree”. And: “Some politicians are completely devoid of creativity. You cannot imagine that there is also work on factual issues. ” Gert Schmidt expects new elections soon, if only because of the new U-Committee, whose title (“Corruption ÖVP”) already carries so much aggression. “How is the big ruling party supposed to endure this longer?” Incidentally, the riot will not end as long as certain people are not replaced.
With a view to the many nasty requests to speak – for example from U committees – which preferably also make it to the public, Richard Schmitt referred to the responsibility of the media, which filter the news accordingly through their reporting. Also shouldn’t forget about the factual issues. Sometimes you get the impression that more politics is done in the Justice Ministry than in Parliament.
Both journalists now also see Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens) challenged, among other things because of excessive investigations by the Economic and Corruption Public Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA). In this way, the careers of people who are investigated for five years will be destroyed, even if they are innocent in the end and there should not even be a charge. “The reputation is ruined, the job is gone,” comments Richard Schmitt.
Gert Schmidt points out that the WKStA has been calling for more employees for some time, but the Minister of Justice does not solve the problem. If it is not possible to get permanent positions from the budget, then certain preparatory work and research could be outsourced to profound law firms.
