A whistleblower was paid a record $ 200 million by the US financial regulator CFTC. The tipster helped authorities in the USA and Great Britain to clarify interest rate manipulation by Deutsche Bank in the so-called Libor scandal. The “Wall Street Journal” reported, citing insiders in its Friday edition. Deutsche Bank did not comment on this when asked.
The CFTC only confirmed the amount in a message, without any information on Whistleblower or to make the affected company. Deutsche Bank and other financial institutions had accepted comparisons worth billions in the past few years because dealers were said to have manipulated the Libor reference interest rate from them. This is an important benchmark for international financial transactions to which numerous loans are linked.
Law was recently passed in the United States to maintain the CFTC whistleblower program. In May, the Wall Street Journal reported that the program was at risk due to the expected payout of a very large amount to a Deutsche Bank manager. This is related to the $ 2.5 billion settlement that Deutsche Bank agreed a few years ago with supervisors regarding the Libor manipulation.
