More and more people are relying on an app when ordering a taxi. It’s quick and convenient. But who is actually behind the wheel? According to the Viennese taxi chairman Resul Ekrem Gönältas, more and more complaints are coming from colleagues and passengers. Often they are “false taxis.” However, this can have unpleasant consequences for the passengers. It cannot be guaranteed that the people driving have a valid business license and driving license in the form of a taxi driver’s license. This can result in passengers not being insured in the event of an accident while driving.
Vehicles approved for taxi operation in Vienna are characterized, among other things, by the distinctive roof light and the well-known “TX” at the end of the license plate. The vehicles and drivers in question often do not have any of these characteristics, but are, among other things, with Lower Austrian license plates, which means that they cannot be distinguished from private vehicles.
If in doubt, it is advisable to check the necessary authorizations. In addition, passengers are asked to show their valid Vienna taxi driver’s ID and a GISA extract. In any case, you should ask for an invoice.
