The gender spellings contradict the official spelling, explained the member of parliament Rolf Weigand, there is a threat of “chaos and confusion”. Therefore, they should not appear in any textbook or workbook, nor should they be taught. In a letter to the school principal shortly before the start of the school year, the Saxon Ministry of Culture recommended that special characters no longer be used for a gender-neutral language. These include official letters, letters to parents and teaching materials. According to the recommendation, characters such as gender asterisks, colon or underscores should be completely dispensed with. Instead, the ministry suggested the use of pair forms such as pupils or formulations such as teachers or young people.
