52 of the 47,675 local doctors signed one open letter to the medical association. The number of people involved seems small. But the renowned Viennese internist Dr. Marcus Franz expects a much higher “dark figure”. Most doctors wouldn’t dare to say anything. The fear of reprisals by the chamber is too great. This is not unjustified. Doctors who downplay the corona virus are threatened with a professional ban. A fate that has already happened to a number of doctors.
This is not only the case in Austria – in Germany, too, one is not squeamish about critical doctors. In total, the state medical associations in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are examining over 80 suspected cases of doctors who are related to the corona pandemic. They are often accused of issuing false mask exemption certificates, of not wearing mouth and nose protection in the practice, or of denying or downplaying the dangers of the coronavirus.
At the moment, it is mainly the vaccination debate that is causing doctors a quandary. Even if many secretly advise against it in their ordinations, they do not dare to publicly question the corona vaccines.
