A total of 217 students took part in the study. The average age of eleven children came from seven different schools in western Turkey.
It was previously assessed how humorous the students are. To do this, they should label ten cartoons with texts that are as funny as possible. An expert jury consisting of five comic artists and two humor experts judged the works. The students then took an intelligence test. Their general knowledge, spatial perception, problem-solving skills, logic and linguistic competence were tested.
Conclusion: Especially humorous children did the best. The researchers came to the conclusion that a strong sense of humor is linked to a person’s intelligence. Children just display humor in a different way than an adult.
