It finally looks like you’re about to live out all the summer plans you envisioned ~last year~ (RIP Summer 2020). Summer hangouts are officially here. While your social cal and the weather are heating up, your ovens are deeeeefinitely not. The only thing worse than showing up empty-handed to an event is bringing the apartment temp up another 10 degrees as you try to cook. Also, *some of us* aren’t exactly great chefs (don’t worry, bestie, still love ya), and sweating it up trying to put together a shareable dish is…low-key a nightmare.
Here’s a better plan: Do a quick swing by the market on the way to see everyone—ALDI has you covered. They have snacks galore, so you don’t have to run across town to a million different markets to get them, especially when you’re running fashionably late to an impromptu pool party or an epic picnic in the park. Bonus: The store’s totally budget friendly.
The best part about kicking off this summer: pool parties are back. While you likely took a lil’ break from pools and public spaces last summer ~for obvious reasons~, it’s safe to say that this will probably be the go-to hang for a lot of people, especially when it’s basically too hot to function anywhere else.
The nice thing is no one’s really whippin’ up 5-star meals to bring to the pool. (Unless that’s your thing?). You can easily snag some tasty snacks and drinks at the store to share with everyone. Obviously, BBQ chips, watermelon, rosé, and lemonade are always a vibe. Whether you’re a chips-and-salsa or a chips-and-guac person is entirely your business, but choose at least one to bring. At the end of the day, who is pressed about there being too much salsa or guac to share?
Let’s be honest: It’s a little harder to dodge cooking when you’re going to an event centered around…well…cooking. Even still, leave the grilling to “professionals” and you can thrive with the side dishes, ’kay?
Conveniently enough, there will always be a variety of pre-made sides in the deli section at ALDI. Pasta salad, macaroni salad, potato salad—sensing a trend here? And if you want to be the true savior of the party: Bring frozen fries and toss them on the grill or in the air fryer when you get there.
Literally, nothing gives ~main character energy~ like an outdoor movie date that looks like it was pulled straight out of a nostalgic rom-com. Since outdoor movies are suddenly trendy again (shout out to Gen Z for that one), you can live out those picture-perfect summer romances at a local park orrrrr opt for a projector-on-a-blank-wall situation at home. Either way, treats and liquid refreshments are a must.
Aside from the obvious popcorn and candy recs, consider packing a few Vista Bay Hard Seltzer Lemonades for this date night. They’re easy to transport for any movie setup, and come on, hard seltzer pairs well with absolutely everything. Convince us otherwise.
This past year, the pandemic taught us that picnics are such an easy way to hang out,(socially distanced then, just for fun now). Here’s the vision: flowy sundresses, a pastel picnic blanket, a charcuterie board, and *the* cutest group pic captioned with “puttin’ the cute in charcuterie” or whatever. You get the idea.
For food, a board is gonna be your best bet, but don’t worry, we’re not suggesting that putting it all together is up to one person (read: you). Coordinate with a few friends on who brings what and boom, you’re set.
NGL, putting together an aesthetic-looking charcuterie board could be intimidating, but if you fill it with the right snacks, it’ll be gone before anyone notices that the crackers aren’t stacked in a perfect pattern…right?
