DJI Air 2S: same design, better camera
For any brand that generates a certain level of expectation, it is very difficult, if not practically impossible, to prevent leaks from their future products. And if we add that when they arrive at the FCC everything is still much more twisted, because things like this end up happening.
DJI’s next drone has been seen without warning. Several media publish the images of the product and some of what will be its main characteristics, although in this case we have to warn that its performance at the hardware level will not be extremely different with respect to the model it replaces. Although it is going to introduce an important change in the face of what is one of its greatest attractions: photography and aerial video.
The change we are referring to affects such an important component for any drone, with the exception of racing, such as the camera. The DJI Air 2S would introduce a larger sensor with the aim of winning in terms of light collection when it is scarce. In addition, in many other situations, the annoying noise sometimes caused by such small sensors would also be reduced.
Regarding the form factor, this DJI Air 2S would be practically a carbon copy of the DJI Mavic Air 2 from last year. And it makes sense, because in itself it was already a very well built, comfortable and very capable product to capture all kinds of content.
In addition, we cannot forget that we are still in the midst of a pandemic and after a year with numerous restrictions, it is not easy for companies to establish contacts or carry out certain collaborations with others.
A camera with a larger sensor

Therefore, the main change that you will find in this DJI Air 2S is in the chamber that now introduces a sensor with a 1 inch size and 20 MP resolution. Yes, if you remember the cameras used by each and every one of DJI’s drones, the one on the Mavic Air was pretty good, but not below being a small sensor with a lot of resolution, so its photodiodes were according to an average sensor. inch and 48 MP resolution.
Looking at the performance of the Mavic 2 Pro, the truth is that it is appreciated that they bet better on a 1-inch sensor. Because if the design was already good, it can hardly be improved and the use that most users give it is to capture aerial images (photo and video), why change it. Better to take advantage of everything you have.

What does seem that it will also change will be parts of its guts with the aim of making them compatible with the new accessories launched by the brand: the new FPV helmet and the controller also seen with the latest and first DJI racing drone.
In addition, all that new circuitry will also allow enhancements to DJI’s ActiveTrack system for tracking objects and people as well as the transmission standard OcuSync 3.0.
When the DJI Air 2S will be released
The launch date of the new DJI Air 2S is not known, but given what happened with the DJI FPV, which was also leaked and was able to see in the FCC, it is very likely that it will not take long to officially show up. So you have to be vigilant and stop any possible purchase of a new drone if you are looking at models. At least until you see not so much what it offers but how much it offers it.
