The first reports on exactly how the royal family feels about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s tell-all Oprah interview are rolling in, and apparently Prince William is “devastated.”
Royal reporter Katie Nicholl tells Entertainment Tonight that “William is devastated by this interview,” adding “Don’t forget that the Duchess of Cambridge is being dragged into this whole saga and William will hate that and of course, relationship between father and son is of course at an all-time low. I think that the idea that Kate’s being dragged into this will be upsetting for Kate who behind the scenes has tried really hard to be a peacemaker between William and Harry. She has been deeply saddened by the brothers’ falling out. Don’t forget she was incredibly close to Harry herself.”
Meanwhile, Nicholl says a source close to Prince Charles told her that he was “despairing over the interview” a few days before it aired.

Harry touched on his relationship with his dad during his chat with Oprah, saying he feels “really let down” and that Charles stopped taking his calls after he stepped down from senior royal duties. Meanwhile, Meghan spoke about false tabloid reports that she made Kate Middleton cry ahead of the royal wedding, explaining that “the reverse happened.” She also explained that “Kate “owned it” and apologized, and that she’d forgiven her. She also said, “If you love me, you don’t have to hate [Kate], and if you love her, you don’t have to hate me.”
William and Kate haven’t commented on the Sussexes’ Oprah interview yet, and Buckingham Palace hasn’t made a statement thus far but TBD.
